Message from Your Journey

Dear Wayfaring, Wandering, Day-tripping Soul -

I am your Journey and I want to thank you for venturing into this uncharted territory that is me. You, dear Traveler, are very brave, and I not only fully support your first step and all steps that follow for as many as there may be and for as long as they stretch out ahead of you from where you stand right now, but I applaud them.

Please let me explain my role here. You may want to print this out and tuck it into your pocket for days when this will be hard to remember on your own.
As your Journey, it is my duty and honor to anticipate every step you take, laying a stone firmly at your landing foot, to catch and hold you there. Go ahead and try to outstep me - you cannot. I will lay stones as quickly as you require them, and in whatever direction you turn. When you stop to rest, react, and reassess our evolution, I will rest too.

Like you, I have no insider information about where this road we are building together will lead, but I will go wherever you go. This is my solemn vow. I will never quit on you, force you to move in another direction, or complain about the number of stone-summoning-footsteps you take. I am yours, dear Gypsy, for as long or as short as you need me to be.

You may be surprised to learn that I neither want nor don't want anything in particular to happen along the way. My sole purpose is to lay stones beneath your feet before they land on the path. I cannot promise that if you sing sweet songs to me I can make the road less steep, less perilous, or less slippery, but please sing sweet songs anyway as they will always be welcomed and helpful in other ways.

It may happen that at times your travels are calm and that you feel exuberant and surefooted. You may also find yourself exhausted and unmotivated as you proceed, and maybe even afraid and unsure. It might happen that you quit for a while or forever. Just remember what I said - I will not quit even if you do. I'll still be at the ready, should you decide to venture out again. I am equipped with an endless supply of stepping stones.

There are some other things that may come up along the way. The forces of others' lives and journeys may tip you off your mark, or literally reach up and spin your leg, right before your foot comes down, and boom- you'll find yourself heading in quite another direction. You will feel like this is a strange, unfamiliar path. You might feel exhilarated by this new direction, or you might feel quite terrified, or you might feel both in equal amounts. Don't worry. I'll be there and your foot will land on the next stone I lay, and I will lay it right where your foot needs it to be. It's okay. I guarantee it. Trust me, please. A Journey is, by its very nature, an unpredictable voyage, which is why my name is not Destination. ;) Heh heh. I hope that made you laugh a little.

As your Journey, I will always be ready at the next step, fully and completely yours.

I have been watching you for a while, and I want you to know that you are very brave and strong, and a very worthy companion. As Christopher Robin once said, "you're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, & smarter than you think." (A.A. Milne. Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, 1966).

Your Mutually Devoted Complement,
Journey
