My roots are in the small town of Spencerport NY, up north on the Erie Canal, complete with towpath and a lift bridge. My husband and I met in graduate school, married, had two sons and moved to the warmer south where we lived for 5 years, first in North Carolina and then Tennessee. In 2000 we all moved to Northeast PA where we adopted our rather large dog Gruffy who suffers under the delusion that he is a Pomeranian. Sixteen years later Joe, Gruffy, and I piled into the car and headed off to South Georgia. Our sons, now grown, are holding down the fort in PA.
My work in Early Childhood Education spanned 30 years and four states. In 2009, when Lyme Disease and multiple co-infections brought my career to a screeching halt, my earlier love of writing and dreams of becoming an artist had room to grow. My poetry has been featured in Every Day Poems, wordcandy.me, Poetry Nook vol 3, and When Women Waken issue 3. My work has also appeared alongside many other wonderful artists on Inanna House, Makes You Mom, and Tweetspeak Poetry websites. The year 2017 marks the year I added Illustrator to my resume, for the children’s book A is for Azure: The Alphabet in Colors, written by L.L. Barkat. In the fall of 2020 I published a memoir, Messages on the Mirror: Lovenotes and Lyme, telling the story of my journey through chronic Lyme Disease all the way to Alcohol Ink and all the art that followed.
So, here I am, living far south of Atlanta, having landed with a playful splash in alcohol inks and paint.
I love my chocolate dark, my coffee light, and my tea touched by stevia. As for wine, make mine Merlot.
